Officer noticed the vehicle in the alley of a closed business of Caesar Place around 1:10 a.m.

Tamargo “patrols the area regularly and knew the alley was normally clear of vehicles,” Sgt. Jeff Napolitano said.

As the officer approached, the car began to pull away, so he and Napolitano stopped it.

They immediately smelled marijuana, Napolitano said.

After finding the drug packaged in a jar and several zip-locking bags, along with $1,032 in cash, they arrested the driver, 20-year-old Brian Ordonez of Moonachie, the sergeant said.

A 20-year-old female passenger was released without charges, he said.

Ordonez was released on a summons to answer various drug counts in court.
